Kurzfassung:
Spontaneous reports of adverse drug reactions by physicians are an important tool of pharmacovigilance. They contribute to a safer drug therapy for patients. In Germany, physicians are requested to report adverse drug reactions to the Drug Commission of the German Medical Association. The article explains the structure of the German pharmacovigilance system and presents the most important sources of information on adverse drug reactions and drug safety for physicians. How the Drug Commission handles the assessment of spontaneous reports and how these reports are processed afterwards is illustrated on the basis of two cases from rheumatology.
