Abstract: Ni‐Al 2 O 3 ‐MoS 2 composite coatings were prepared on the surface of aluminum alloy substrates by an integrative method of electrophoresis and electrodeposition from the electrolytic solution with different MoS 2 concentrations. The surface morphology and compositions of the coatings were studied by scanning electron microscopy equipped with an energy dispersive spectroscope. The microindentation hardness and tribological properties of the coatings were tested using a Vickers hardness tester and friction performance tester in dry sliding condition, respectively. Results showed that the cross‐sections of the coatings exhibited smooth morphology and uniform distribution of the compositions. Al 2 O 3 and MoS 2 particles were uniformly dispersed in the Ni matrix. The coatings were sufficiently adhered on the aluminum alloy substrates. The addition of MoS 2 particles can significantly improve the wear resistance of the coatings. When the MoS 2 concentration is 1.0 g/L, the Ni‐Al 2 O 3 ‐MoS 2 coatings exhibit superior mechanical properties.
