Abstract:
Delineating the neural regions responsible for drug-resistant epilepsy is critical for the best surgery outcomes. Wang et al . present a digital workflow for mapping individual epileptogenic zone networks based on patient magnetic resonance imaging and stereoelectroencephalography recordings. The authors developed the model using simulated data, and then validate on a retrospective cohort of 53 patients with drug-resistant focal epilepsy. In a series of case studies, personalized models were used to retroactively estimate post-surgical patient outcomes that were then compared to actual surgical outcomes, demonstrating the potential clinical relevance of this toolset. —CAC
