Infrared (IR) transmittance spectra were measured for La 0.67 Sr x MnO 3-δ ( x =0.33 and 0.23) samples in the temperature range 300–400 K. Large frequency shifts of the stretching mode of MnO 6 octahedra were observed around the Curie temperature T c . IR spectra showed that the local Jahn-Teller (JT) distortions persist in trigonal La 0.67 Sr x MnO 3-δ and are partially removed below T c . An extra absorption peak was detected for La 0.67 Sr 0.23 MnO 3-δ due to the reduced symmetry of local MnO 6 octahedra.
