Kurzfassung:
Oxidation of wüstite (Fe 1-δ O) in air and
disproportionation into α-Fe and Fe 3 O 4 in a vacuum-sealed tube at
temperatures below the transition temperature (843 K) were studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy. The observed discontinuity of weight
increase during oxidation in air indicates a two-step process, i.e., the first is the oxidation of Fe 1-δ O to Fe 3 O 4 and the
second, that of Fe 3 O 4 to α-Fe 2 O 3 . The change in the
fraction of components by annealing in a vacuum-sealed tube depends linearly on the logarithm of the annealing time. The process is interpreted as
having a wide distribution of effective thermal activation energy.
