Abstract:
This note describes a style of mechanical formula construction and several utilities that help to debug, document and monitor Mathematica procedures, that evolved from some recent work on the symbolic evaluation of molecular integrals of quantum chemistry. Objects called grules and crules are used to substitute from one equation into another, with easily controlled generality or specificity. Operations are performed in situ on subexpressions that are specified hierarchically. Interpretive and string manipulation techniques serve supporting roles.
