Abstract: Over half of the states have either attempted or are currently attempting to add to present legislation or write new laws which will give protection, remediation and funding to the children suffering with a learning disability. The state of Texas spent a full year researching, asking professional advice and writing an addition for their existing law on handicapped children, which would give coverage to specific dyslexia. As Speaker Barnes points out, you may agree or disagree with the definition of terminology; however, what was necessary for Texas, and will be necessary for other states, is politically workable language. All states need legislation to cover learning disabilities, and all states will be able to learn by reading about Texas.—C.C.E.
