Abstract: Allergy is a relatively new speciality with rapidly growing services. In spite of this, the number of people with allergic disease surpasses the capacity within services to provide adequate provision. To meet the increasing demand for allergy services, new ways of working have been developed. The advancement of nursing practice and the need within the NHS for development of a flexible and adaptable workforce, responsive to the needs of patients, has enabled nurse-led allergy services to flourish. This article examines nurse-led service development within the field of allergy across the UK, the governance needed to underpin nurse-led services, and how these have contributed to the growth of allergy service provision.
