Abstract:
Plain language summary Ischemic stroke is a common cerebrovascular disease and genetic factors play an important role in its pathogenesis and progression. PON-1 is an enzyme involved in blood lipid metabolism, and previous studies have found that the PON-1 gene is related to coronary heart disease and other atherosclerotic diseases, while the correlation between PON-1 polymorphism and ischemic stroke remains unclear. The authors compared PON-1 polymorphism between patients with acute ischemic stroke and healthy adults and further investigated the relationship between the PON-1 polymorphism and the severity of ischemic stroke. It was found that PON-1 polymorphism rs854572 was related to the susceptibility to ischemic stroke and the severity of the disease, suggesting that people with risk genotypes should take more active preventive and therapeutic measures.
