Abstract:
Excavations in Burdur province, whose settlement dates back to the Neolithic period, provides important data on the ancient history of the city. Kibyra Ancient City is one of the important ancient cities of Burdur and the Pisidia region. During the ongoing excavations in many parts of the city, a Basilica Planned Church dated to the Eastern Roman period was unearthed and grave structures were identified. Anthropological analysis of the human skeletons recovered in this study was carried out. A total of 56 individuals were identified during the excavations carried out in 2019 and 2020. After determining the sex and age of the individuals and revealing their basic demographic information, their health status was tried to be revealed by examining their height and pathological conditions. When the demographic data are compared with the results of previous studies in different areas of the city, it is seen that the individuals buried in the church do not have a special situation in terms of age at death or sex distribution. The oral health of the individuals and the pathological conditions observed in the body bones are in line with other studies, but the arachnoid granulation observed in one individual is new information for the city. In addition, the cranial cultural deformation trace found in another individual reveals new information about the cultural life of the people of the region. With the ongoing excavations in the city, the physical changes of the people of the city will be revealed much better.
