Abstract:
Trente huit prélèvements de tourbe en provenance de 18 sites de l'ensemble du Massif Central et contenant différents épisodes du changement majeur de la végétation qui se produit vers le milieu du Postglaciaire sont datés par le 14 C. Quatorze des dates obtenues peuvent fonder un schéma chronologique de la dynamique d'ensemble de la végétation avec lequel 12 dates sont compatibles et 12 discordantes. L'analyse de ces trois catégories de dates montre qu'il n'existe pas, pour l'essentiel, de différences significatives entre la qualité des résultats de laboratoires différents et qu'une évaluation d'ensemble des mesures est possible sur une base paléoécologique sans mettre en cause la méthode physique. Elle suggère surtout qu'une concertation très précoce entre paléoécologie et radiochronologie est un facteur décisif de rendement de la recherche.
