Kurzfassung:
Traditionaly the Etruscan production of bucchero pottery is seen as an imitation or a cheap reproduction of the metal vases. This paper looks at the subject in detail and shows a much more complex view. Not only from an archaeological perspective (technics, shapes, decoration) but also from an historical one (aristocratic tradition of the black vases in Etruria). Firstly we would like to define the metal tradition (toreutic) of the etruscan pottery vases, and its importance during the orientalising period (from the VIIIth to the VIth century BC). Afterwards, we would like to examine the subject of the « luxuary prototype paradox », the similarity of shapes, identification of their uses and fonctions. And, to finish, we would like to look at the significance of bucchero pottery as a simple cheap substitute or a specific product.
