Abstract: In the town of Sachsenburg there was located a concentration camp from 1933 to 1937. A memorial site is to be established there soon. The essay investigates the complex tangle of all the players involved in the discussion about an appropriate way and place of commemoration. Starting from the main debate regarding the conservation and the future role of the commander’s villa the text is going to present the players, the controversies, and the different positions.
