This article is a reply on Sebastian Zick’s idea of a pedagogical mobility research. Based on the dominating sociological and regional planning concept of mobility its relevance for educational sciences is underlined. It argues that a narrow understanding of mobility misses the analytical and critical potential of a pedagogic mobility research. Some studies are outlined which unfold a subjective and experience based understanding of mobility. They offer clues of how and where mobility can support processes of education (Bildung) and development.
