A pivotal role is played by inositol monophosphatase in the biosynthesis of secondary messengers. Several d‐myo‐inositol derivatives have been synthesised and their activities with the enzyme have been studied. Evidence has been found that the 6‐hydroxy group of d‐inositol 1‐phosphate is an essential hydrogen‐bond donor during the hydrolysis reaction.
