Content: Der Film erzählt die Geschichte des jungen französischen Journalisten, der 1940/41 mehr als 2.000 NS-Flüchtlinge aus Südfrankreich in die Freiheit lotste.
Content: Using interviews and still photographs, this film tells the story of the American journalist, Varian Fry, who died in obscurity in 1967. In 1940 Fry, with several others, established the 'Emergency Rescue Committee'. The committee planned to help artists and intellectuals persecuted by Hitler to escape from Europe. In 1940/41 Fry traveled to Marseille as the Committee's representative. He organized the escape of many of those imprisoned in France, among them, Sigfried Kracauer, Lion Feuchtwanger, Golo Mann, and Max Ernst. Fry's Marseille headquarters was the Villa Bel Air.
