Inhalt: This case study demonstrates moderator meta-analysis by using a quantitative summarization of the partitioned pricing literature as an example. It introduces the concepts of meta-analysis and moderator meta-analysis as well as partitioned pricing, and then discusses the various steps involved in a moderator meta-analysis of the effect of partitioned versus all-inclusive pricing on consumer preference. These steps include the following research practicalities--literature review, identifying theoretical moderators, developing a conceptual framework, deciding which moderators and control variables to include, collecting data, dealing with incomplete data and deciding the unit of analysis. deciding which statistical model to use, and coding the meta-analytic moderators; the following research design process issues--handling potential multicollinearity concerns, deciding which meta-analytic dependent measure to use, and deciding which effect size measure to use; and the following implementation concerns--reporting model-free evidence, estimating a moderator meta-analytic (meta-regression) model, testing interactions between moderators, and conducting robustness checks. This case study focuses on the purpose of making a decision in each of the previously mentioned steps as well as the alternatives available and the rationale for each decision. Additionally, it identifies and discusses challenges and suggestions for various concerns and issues as they arise during each of the previously mentioned steps. Finally, the case study ends with some practical lessons learned from the process of using moderator meta-analysis as a methodological tool to investigate the effect of partitioned versus all-inclusive pricing on consumer preference.
