Zwei Moulagensammlungen der Universität Tübingen - die der Universitäts-Hautklinik und der ehemaligen Tropenklinik des DIFÄM - werden in dieser Publikation erstmals der Öffentlichkeit vorgestellt. Zahlreiche Autorinnen und Autoren, darunter Michael Geiges, Benedikt Jeßing, Marthe Kretzschmar, Johanna Lang, Martin Röcken und Thomas Schnalke, zeigen die Geschichte und Relevanz von teilweise einzigartigen Exemplaren aus kultur-, kunst- und medizingeschichtlicher Perspektive. Moulagen waren zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts eines der bevorzugten Lehrmittel in der medizinischen Ausbildung. Diese Abbilder aus Wachs führen die teils schockierenden Symptome von Hautkrankheiten höchst realitätsnah vor Augen. In den letzten Jahren wurden sie als wissenschaftlich, historisch, aber auch als künstlerisch bedeutsame Objekte wiederentdeckt. Bereits um 1800 entstanden in Tübingen anatomische Wachsmodelle. Hier erfolgte die erste serielle Produktion von medizinischen Abgüssen im deutschsprachigen Raum. Die Publikation erhellt erstmals Geschichte und Bedeutung der Tübinger Moulagenproduktion.
