    Content: The research questions are: (a) Who are the relevant actors in the field of environmental education in the Waterberg district? (b) How are the actors networked and what type of cooperation exist? (c) Which population groups participate in existing environmental education? The hypothesis is that low-income sections of the black population in particular do not take part in environmental education. The Waterberg District investigation area in Limpopo Province, like many other rural districts in South Africa, is characterized by unequal power relationships, high unemployment and the leghacy of apartheid. There are only a few studies that adequately analyze the current situation of environmental education in the Waterberg district (Baber, de Klerk and Walker 2003). The work is based on the use of several socio-empirical methods, such as written and oral surveys (interviews) during the research stays between 2009 and 2018/19 as well as field observations between 1995 and 2018/19 in the Waterberg district research area. All stakeholders interviewed in the research work (schools, wildlife farms, nature reserves) convey a level environmental education. However, there has not been a uniform concept in environmental education for the Waterberg district; this is where the study comes in.
