Lasting around three minutes, 'Umbrellas' features two characters, named A and B, who are seated on a hotel terrace throughout. The stage directions indicate that they do not move. A has a huge stock of umbrellas. B does not have any umbrellas at all, and it transpires that A point-blank refuses to give B any of his great quantity of umbrellas.'Umbrellas' was first performed as part of the revue 'You, Me and the Gatepost' at the Nottingham Playhouse in June 1960.
