Im Verlauf der Rechtsmodernisierung Chinas zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts entstand unter der Qing-Dynastie der Entwurf eines Zivilgesetzbuchs (ZGE), dem das deutsche BGB als Vorlage diente. Einerseits konnten die deutschen Rechtsbegriffe und deren Wortschatz durch die im ZGE neu geschaffene Rechtssprache ins Chinesische übernommen werden, andererseits diente die Terminologie des ZGE den späteren Zivilgesetzen als Vorbild und prägten das gesamte moderne Zivilrecht Chinas. Der Verfasser untersucht mit rechts-, translations- und sprachwissenschaftlicher Methode sowie der von ihm angefertigten ZGE-Übersetzung unter Einbeziehung der aktuellen Zivilgesetzgebung erstmals den Entstehungsprozess der modernen chinesischen Zivilrechtssprache und würdigt damit die Leistung der chinesischen Rechtswissenschaft. Die Arbeit ist zugleich ein Hilfsmittel für Juristen, Sinologen, Sprach- und Übersetzungswissenschaftler.
