In vorliegendem Buch geht es um Spracheinstellungen von Kindern in zwei ersten Grundschulklassen an der deutsch-französischen Grenze. Diese Klassen werden zweisprachig unterrichtet – fast die Hälfte des Unterrichts findet auf Französisch statt. Die Interviewstudie untersucht die Spracheinstellungen sowie deren Entwicklung bei den Schülerinnen und Schülern und fokussiert dabei auf Einstellungen gegenüber der Sprache, dem Land, den Bewohnern und der Kultur. Auch die Spracheinstellungen von Lehrkräften werden untersucht. Das Werk zeigt, welche Faktoren das Erlernen der Nachbarsprache in einer Grenzregion zu etwas Besonderem machen. Die Autorin erläutert ausserdem die theoretische Verankerung des frühen Fremdsprachenlernens, der Spracheinstellungsforschung, des Fremdsprachenlernens in Grenzregionen und der qualitativen Forschung im Bereich der Sprachwissenschaft.
