Content: Die systematische Anordnung der lateinischen Inschriften im Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum wird in fast allen Bänden durch Neuauflagen oder Nachträge in Supplementen gestört: Neueditionen, Korrekturen, Kommentare und Nachträge zu bereits früher publizierten Inschriften erschweren den Überblick; sie sind freilich notwendige Folge einer historisch gewachsenen, das Imperium Romanum umfassenden Inschriftensammlung, deren Bestand bis auf den heutigen Tag immer wieder zu aktualisieren ist. Rechtzeitig zum 150-jährigen Jubiläum erscheint nun der Index numerorum, der erstmals für den Umfang des gesamten Corpus die Verweise auf verstreut publizierte Informationen zusammenführt - ein unverzichtbares Arbeitsinstrument für den Epigraphiker, will er in einem Corpus von fast 200.000 Inschriften den Überblick bewahren. Ergänzend gibt der Index Querverweise auf die Publikation von Inschriften in der 'Ephemeris epigraphica', Büchelers 'Carmina Latina epigraphica', Dessaus 'Inscriptiones Latinae selectae', Hübners 'Exempla scripturae epigraphicae', die Corpora der griechischen Inschriften CIG und IG sowie die 'Inscriptiones Christianae urbis Romae'.

Content: In almost every volume of the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum, revisions or supplements interfere with the systematization of the Latin inscriptions. New editions, corrections, annotations, and addenda pertaining to previously published inscriptions make it difficult to keep track. They are, however, the necessary consequence of the growth in the collection of inscriptions from the Roman Empire, a body of material constantly in need of updating. The 150th anniversary of the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum is being marked by the publication of the Index numerorum, which provides the entire corpus with a catalogue of all inscription references that are scattered in diverse publications. The Index is an invaluable resource for the epigrapher wishing to maintain a grasp of nearly 200,000 inscriptions. It also contains cross-references to the publication of inscriptions in the Ephemeris epigraphica, Bücheler's Carmina Latina epigraphica, Dessau's Inscriptiones Latinae selectae, Hübner's Exempla scripturae epigraphicae, the Greek inscriptions documented in Corpus Inscriptionum Graecarum and Inscriptiones Graeca, and the Inscriptiones Christianae urbis Romae.
