Im Mittelpunkt des Symposiums zu den Göttinger Händel-Festspielen 2017 standen der Dichter Barthold Heinrich Brockes und sein Verhältnis zur Musik. Der Autor des 〈em〉Irdischen Vergnügens in Gott〈/em〉 regte mit seinen Gedichten etliche Komponisten an, nahm aber auch mit seinem spektakulären Passionsoratorium großen Einfluss auf die Musik- und Gattungsgeschichte. Musiker wie Reinhard Keiser, Johann Mattheson, besonders aber Georg Friedrich Händel und Georg Philipp Telemann waren beeindruckt von dem Text und der unmittelbaren Zusammenarbeit mit seinem Dichter. In diesem Band XIX werden die Referate des Symposiums sowie der Festvortrag von Jan Philipp Reemtsma dokumentiert, ergänzt wie immer um die Bibliografie zum Händel-Schrifttum und die Mitteilungen der Göttinger Händel-Gesellschaft e.V.
