Die Projektion ist dabei dezidiert eurozentristischer Art: Traditionelle Konzepte der Weiblichkeit werden mit jenen einer kindlichen Unschuld und Reinheit gleichgesetzt und die Eroberung der mexikanischen Geliebten so gerechtfertigt. Caroline Kodym untersucht das gemeinsame Muster der Projektionen als europäische Ursehnsucht nach dem verlorenen Paradies. Sie zeigt auf, dass sich aus dem ursprünglichen Mythos das Wunschbild einer natürlichen Gesellschaftsordnung und eines ursprünglichen, exotischen Naturraums entwickelt, der auch Raum für politische Wunschbilder und Abenteuer bietet
