Die Villa Schöningen wurde im 19. Jahrhundert von Ludwig Persius, Karl Friedrich Schinkels Schüler, geplant und im Auftrag des preussischen Königs Friedrich Wilhelm IV. gebaut. Das prachtvolle Potsdamer Bauwerk im italienischen Stil an der Glienicker Brücke diente zunächst seinem Namensgeber Kurd Wolfgang von Schöningen, Hofmarschall des Prinzen Carl von Preussen, als Wohnhaus, später war die Villa Unterkunft einer jüdischen, grossbürgerlichen Familie und zu DDR-Zeiten ab 1952 ein Kinderwochenheim.
