Die Beziehungen zwischen Eisengießer und Maschinen-Ingenieur bestehen, seit Gußstücke im Maschinenbau verwendet werden. Die ständig steigenden Ansprüche an die Maschine und somit auch an die Gußstücke haben jedoch gerade in den letzten Jahren das Bedürfnis gezeitigt, die Verbindung dieser beiden Gruppen enger zu gestalten, als dies bisher der Fall war. Zudem hat es sich allmählich gezeigt, daß der Gießereileiter, der früher meist Maschineningenieur war und die Eisengießerei mehr oder weniger dem Gießermeister überließ, einer Spezialausbildung als Gießereifachmann bedarf. Es hat sich also dieser Spezialberuf gebildet, der Zusammenhang ging verloren und droht immer mehr verloren zu gehen. Zu den mannigfachen Bestrebungen, die nach dem Ziel des Wiedernäherbringens strebten, gehörte auch die Veranstaltung einer Vortragsreihe der ADB-Ortsgruppe Berlin im Winter 1925/1926: "Was muß der Maschineningenieur vom Gießereiwesen wissen - " unter der Patenschaft des bekannten Gießereifachmannes Generaldirektor Alexander Kremener, Berlin. Die große Beteiligung der Maschinen-Ingenieure an dieser Veranstaltung sowie das Fehlen brauchbarer Literatur über dieses Fragengebiet ließ die Absicht reifen, die Vorträge als ADB-Band zu veröffentlichen. Bei der Bearbeitung zeigte es sich, daß eine Beschränkung auf die Eisengießerei notwendig wurde, da der Umfang des Bandes sonst zu groß geworden ware. Zudem waren einzelne Vorträge für eine Zusammenstellung in der vorliegenden Form nicht geeignet, so daß sich eine teilweise Überarbeitung und die Heranziehung neuer Mitarbeiter notwendig machte. Daraus ist die lange Zeit bis zur Herausgabe des Bandes zu erklären
