"[...] Otto Dix, am 2. Dezember 1891 in Gera geboren, wurde als Maler und Grafiker mit seinem künstlerischen Schaffen zu einem herausragenden Repräsentanten der Neuen Sachlichkeit. Er lehrte bis 1933 als Professor an der Kunstakademie in Dresden und war Mitglied der Preußischen Akademie der Künste. Sein Werk wurde von den Nazis als "entartet" diffamiert und aus den deutschen Museen entfernt. Der Film in der Reihe "Lebensläufe" erzählt, ausgehend von Dix' Bildern über den Ersten Weltkrieg, eine Malerbiografie, die von den Katastrophen der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts geprägt wurde."
