"Um den Ressourcenverbrauch der Menschheit einzudämmen, haben Wissenschaftler eine zellulare Miniaturisierung erfunden, bei der Menschen auf 12 Zentimetern verkleinert werden. Diese Methode wird allerdings schon bald vorwiegend zum sozialen Aufstieg genutzt. Als ein Ergotherapeut sich um ein bisschen Luxus wegen schrumpfen lässt, erkennt er im Schicksal einer zwangsgeschrumpften vietnamesischen Dissidentin die Abgründe der Miniaturwelt, und dass es im Leben noch andere Werte als Reichtum und Wohlstand gibt. Satirisches Science-Fiction-Drama, der anfangs auf die im "Schrumpffilm" gängigen Effekte der Disproportion setzt, dann aber zum Moralstück über die Ökonomisierung der Gesellschaft und den Egoismus des Einzelnen durchstartet.
