Das bewährte, dreibändige Werk stellt die Grundlagen der Elektrotechnik umfassend und systematisch dar. Der vorliegende Band 1 behandelt die stationären Vorgänge in elektrischen Stromkreisen sowie in elektrischen und magnetischen Feldern. Dabei wird berücksichtigt, dass die mathematischen Kenntnisse der Studierenden allmählich zunehmen. Deshalb beginnen die Autoren mit dem elektrischen Strom in Leitern und nicht mit dem elektrostatischen Feld. Die zeitabhängigen Vorgänge in elektrischen und magnetischen Feldern sowie in Netzwerken werden im Band 2 beschrieben. Band 3 enthält eine ergänzende und vertiefende Aufgabensammlung. Die didaktisch ausgefeilte Darstellung des umfangreichen Stoffes mit Lernzielen, durchgerechneten Beispielen, Übungsaufgaben mit Lösungen und Kontrollfragen gibt den Studierenden optimale Lernhilfen und vermittelt ein solides Wissensfundament. Wichtige Fachausdrücke werden auch in englischer Sprache angegeben. Der ständige Bezug zur Praxis aus zahlreichen Fachgebieten der Elektrotechnik soll die Motivation der Studierenden verstärken.
