"Cristian Macelaru dirigiert Leuchttürme des Klassikrepertoires und begrüßt dazu eine Legende unter den Geigern: Pinchas Zukerman. Mit dem A-Dur-Konzert KV 219 hat dieser das reifste der fünf Violinkonzerte Mozarts ausgesucht. Der israelisch-amerikanische Musiker Pinchas Zukerman zählt seit über fünf Jahrzehnten zu den gefragtesten und vielseitigsten Künstlern weltweit: als Geigen- und Bratschensolist, als Dirigent und Kammermusiker. Sein letztes Werk, das A-Dur-Konzert KV 219, hat Mozart im Dezember 1775 vollendet - mit Blick auf eine prachtvolle weihnachtliche Akademie am Salzburger Hof und vielleicht auch mit Ausblick auf Fasching: das Finale ist eine regelrechte Maskerade im türkischen Stil. Cristian Mãcelaru und das WDR Sinfonieorchester umrahmen dieses klassische Meisterstück mit zwei überaus populären Werken: Zuerst erklingt Samuel Barbers "Adagio for Strings", eine Orchesterbearbeitung des 2. Satzes seines Streichquartetts op. 11, das rein örtlich eng mit Mozart zusammenhängt. Barber hatte es am Wolfgangsee bei Salzburg komponiert.
