Marsilio Ficino (1433-1499) gilt als Begründer des Renaissance-Platonismus. Er übersetzte im Auftrag Cosimo de Medicis die Hermes Trismegistos zugeschriebenen Schriften, die Werke Platons und Plotins sowie weitere spät-antike und hermetische Schriften und ist Autor eines umfangreichen philosophischen und theologischen Werks
