Die Individualpsychologie Alfred Adlers ist eine der drei klassischen tiefenpsychologischen Schulen. Im Zentrum ihrer Theorie stehen Fragen des Selbstwertes, indem die Aufmerksamkeit auf das Minderwertigkeitsgefühl als Grundbefindlichkeit der kindlichen Seele gelenkt wird, das durch das Streben nach sozialer Gleichwertigkeit, nach Geltung und Macht kompensiert wird. Dabei stellt Adlers Theorie eine bemerkenswerte Mischung aus egalitär-aufklärerischem und psychoanalytischem Denken dar und ist im Gegensatz zu den Lehren Sigmund Freuds und Carl Gustav Jungs eher konstruktivistisch orientiert. Dennoch wurde der Individualpsychologie bisher vonseiten der Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften nur wenig Aufmerksamkeit zuteil. Der vorliegende Sammelband möchte daher den potentiellen Ertrag der Adler'schen Lehre sowohl für die Erzählforschung als auch für die Literaturwissenschaft deutlich machen und darlegen, dass sie durch das Einbringen einer zusätzlichen Perspektive eine Bereicherung für die Textinterpretation darstellt, der bisher zu wenig Beachtung zuteilwurde
