Der berühmte Stummfilm über die revolutionären Ereignisse des Jahres 1917 in Rußland, inszeniert vom damals 29-jährigen Eisenstein nach seinem "Potemkin"-Projekt und noch während der Dreharbeiten zu "Die Generallinie". Die Handlung umspannt die acht Monate vom Scheitern der "Provisorischen Regierung" bis zum Sturm auf das Winterpalais. Ursprünglich zum zehnten Jahrestag der Revolution geplant, verzögerte sich die Fertigstellung, u.a. weil Eisenstein auf höhere Weisung den inzwischen geächteten Trotzki nachträglich aus dem Film entfernen musste. Das zwischen scharfer Polemik und wuchtigem Pathos schwankende Werk fasziniert durch seine intellektuelle Konzeption, durch die authentische Wirkung der aufwändig nachgestellten historischen Szenen und durch die suggestive Ausdruckskraft seiner Bildmontagen. - Sehenswert ab 14.
