    Content: The exemplar shows how interview data can be analysed by attending to the ways in which scientists account for scientific achievements. The data extracts included in the exemplar are derived from a study conducted with a group of genetic scientists responsible for a major genetic discovery. The scientists had been searching for the location and nature of the genetic basis of an important inherited medical condition - myotonic dystrophy. The local group had been collaborating and competing with other research groups around the world. In the end the discovery was announced simultaneously in three multiple-authored publications.
