Inhalt: Planning Library Orientations presents examples from around the world into a best practice guide for planning first year library orientations. Planning a library first year orientation in some form is a requirement for a lot colleges and universities throughout the world. These vary greatly in shape and form depending on the size of the institution, whether it is mandatory for students and the orientation schedule. Some institutions plan elaborate games or scavenger hunts, while others offer drop in sessions or library tours while some offer an online orientation. Sometimes these evolve over time, as was evidenced by the Lafayette College Library, which went from a more elaborate game to a tour, which had competitive game elements such as quizzes and prizes. Finding inspiration or practical tips about how to set these up has always been difficult. Some are discussed in published papers but many are not. This book attempts to gather examples from around the world to create a best practice guide for planning library first year orientations in various forms. This book is only focused on these one-off orientations which mostly do not attempt to cover information literacy in depth, but rather attempt to reduce library anxiety by introducing students to what a college/university library is, what it contains and where to find it while also showing them how helpful librarians can be.
