Welche oder wessen Geschichte jüngeren Generationen vermittelt werden soll, ist eine kontroverse Frage. Insbesondere Geschichtsschulbücher sind dabei als ein zentrales Medium der Herausbildung verschiedener regionaler, nationaler und transversaler Identifikationsmöglichkeiten zu begreifen. In ihrem Beitrag skizzieren Felicitas Macgilchrist und Marcus Otto die Potenziale von Geschichtsschulbüchern als zeitgeschichtliche Quellen und diskutieren aktuelle Forschungsfragen und -desiderate hinsichtlich der Untersuchung von Prozessen der Produktion, Verbreitung und Rezeption von Geschichtsschulbüchern.
