Die westliche Allianz unter der Führung der USA ist heute so übermächtig, aber auch so verletzbar wie nie zuvor. Die nicht geringe Spannung dieses Zustandes zeigt sich in der eigentümlichen Ambivalenz der politischen Legitimation des Afghanistan-Krieges. Einerseits wird er als humanitäre Intervention zur Befreiung von der Taliban-Unterdrückung und somit als Imperativ der Menschenrechtsidee, andererseits als Bekämpfung der Al-Qaida und des von ihr ausgehenden Terrors und damit als legitime Wahrung staatlicher Interessen dargestellt. Klärung der Kategorien tut not. Die Beiträge des vorliegenden Bandes leuchten am Beispiel des Kosovo-Krieges Grund und Grenze der Idee humanitärer Intervention als grenzüberschreitenden Menschenrechtsschutzes aus.
