Content: Extracts from an interview in Beirut which show that Fadlallah's views - the Shia cleric is widely regarded as the spiritual guide of the pro-Iranian Hizbollah - differ markedly from Hizbollah's militant insistence on the establishment of an Islamic state in Lebanon. The sheikh recognises that because of the country's cultural and religious diversity creating an Islamic state in Lebanon must be a slow process built on mutual understanding. (DÜI-Asd)
