Otto v. Bismarck, dessen Geburtstag sich jüngst zum 200. Mal jährte, ist sicherlich zu einer „Schicksalsgestalt“ des deutschen Liberalismus geworden: Einerseits hat er Teile von dessen Agenda wie die nationale Einheit gefördert, andere liberale Kernforderungen wie die Parlamentarisierung oder eine freiheitliche Wirtschaftspolitik dagegen blockiert. Im Themenschwerpunkt des neuen „Jahrbuchs“ wird u. a. von Joachim Scholtyseck (Bonn), Frank Müller (St. Andrews) und Eckart Conze (Marburg) die wechselvolle und keineswegs einheitliche Rezeption des „Reichsgründers“ aus liberaler Sicht vom ausgehenden 19. Jahrhundert bis zur Wiedervereinigung in insgesamt acht Beiträgen analysiert.Des Weiteren werden Blicke auf neue Aspekte der liberalen Historiographie – so bei Johann Gustav Droysen (Ernst Opgenoorth, Bonn) und Veit Valentin (Klaus Seidl, Frankfurt/M.) –, aber auch auf Persönlichkeiten geworfen, die wie Hasso v.
