Die Millenniumsvision der Johannesoffenbarung zielt nicht auf den Trost in einer Christenverfolgung, sondern sie warnt Christen vor einer allzu großen Bereitschaft zur Teilnahme am Leben ihrer heidnischen Umwelt, denn diese Teilnahme ist nicht möglich ohne die Berührung mit dem heidnischen Götterkult. Wer sich aber mit dem heidnischen Kult befleckt, wird nicht an der „Auferstehung0 und am „tausendjährigen Messiasreich0 teilnehmen, sondern er wird beim Endgericht im „Pfuhl von Feuer und Schwefel0 den „zweiten Tod0 erleiden.
