This study elucidates the previously undefined notion of the “archival novel.” It establishes Goethe’s idea of the “aggregate” as a tool for generating order and avoiding interconnection. Die Studie klärt den bislang undefinierten Begriff ‚Archivroman‘. Sie etabliert Goethes Idee des Aggregats als Instrument zur Ordnungsgenerierung und Beziehungsvermeidung. Mit dem ‚Archivalischen Erzählen‘ und dem ‚Archivalischen Schreiben‘ entwickelt sie Untersuchungseinheiten am Text, die fortan zum Basisvokabular der Romananalyse gezählt werden dürfen. Sie liefert einen Diskussionsbeitrag zur Gattungspoetik des Romans und zur Wanderjahre-Forschung.
