Against the backdrop of its pop-cultural normalization, pornography is often hotly debated. At the same time, the phenomenon of hardcore pornography has been insufficiently tackled from a social-theoretical perspective. Instead of rehearsing fruitless moral debates, Sven Lewandowski poses the question of the relation of modern society with its pornography in a new way. From sociological, psychoanalytic, systems theoretical perspectives, he shows that pornography lives off latent significative content and both drives and reflects the transformation of the sexual.
