Joachim Tielke (1641–1719), geboren in Königsberg, später hochgerühmter Musikinstrumentenmacher in Hamburg, hat ein umfangreiches Werk von 169 Streich- und Zupfinstrumenten unterschiedlicher Arten hinterlassen. Charakteristisch für seine Arbeiten sind der oft überaus aufwändige Dekor: Marketerien mit emblematischen und mythologischen Darstellungen, zumeist nach älteren niederländischen Vorlagen, üppige florale Ornamente und phantasievoll geschnitzte Köpfe. Kostbare Materialien wie Elfenbein, Ebenholz, Schildpatt, Perlmutt und Halbedelsteine machten Joachim Tielkes Instrumente auch für den Adel zu begehrenswerten Kunstwerken. Heute sind sie der Stolz vieler Museen und privater Sammler.
