Die Aufnahmen des russischen Frontfotografen Valery Faminsky von der Befreiung Berlins und den ersten Friedenstagen sind ebenso künstlerisch beeindruckende wie historisch wertvolle Zeitdokumente. Das in Moskau entdeckte Archiv Valery Faminskys (1914–1993) ist ein einzigartiger Fund. In Berlin entstehen vom 22. April bis 24. Mai 1945 die Aufnahmen der völlig zerstörten Stadt, ihrer Bevölkerung und dem Alltag der russischen Truppen. Ohne jede Art von Pathos und Propaganda aufgenommen, beschreiben diese Fotografien mit einem humanistischen Blick die Sehnsucht nach Frieden und die Wirklichkeit des Krieges. Die Echtheit und auch die Nähe zu den Ereignissen, gehen unter die Haut und lassen den Betrachter zum Zeugen dieser historischen Stunden und Tage werden. Gemessen an der herausragenden künstlerischen Qualität seiner Fotografien steht Valery Faminsky auf einer Stufe mit Fotografen wie Jewgeni Chaldej und Robert Capa.
