Series Statement: Scientific.Net: Materials Science & Technology / Trans Tech Publications Archiv 1984-2008
Content: Volume is indexed by Thomson Reuters CPCI-S (WoS).In this special issue, we have several papers that are addressing the current status of the fundamental issues related to synthesis and the diverse applications of semiconducting nanowires and nanotubes. The papers related to nanocrystalline polymer materials presented in chapter IV discusses the different aspects associated with the synthesis and properties of polymer materials and provides good scope for researchers to carry out further research on polymer materials. Demonstration about the usage of specific nanocrystalline materials for efficient drug delivery and antimicrobial activities are being discussed in chapter V under the title nanostructured materials for biological applications and will be an impetus for carrying out research in this area. Finally, in the chapter VI papers related to sensors and devices using nanostructured materials give an overview about the fabrication of devices like, field effect transistors, gas sensors and solar cells using nanomaterials. The focus of the conference was to connect the science with the engineering and technology of nanostructured materials. The 72 papers selected for publication cover preparing and characterizing nanostructures materials, structural and optical properties of nanocrystalline materials, nanotubes and nanowires, nanocrystalline polymer materials, nanostructured materials for biological applications, and sensors and devices using nanostructured materials. Among specific topics are synthesizing gold nanoparticles using flower extract from the Cassia auriculata shrub, the structural and optical characterization of chemically deposited cuprous oxide thin film, the mass production of carbon nanofibers on water soluble support, the electrochemical synthesis of nanosized polypyrrole in the presence of aqueous surfactant solutions, and characterizing nanochitosan-incorporated solid polymer composite electrolytes for magnesium batteries
