Anhand von über 100 tschechischen und slowakischen Elternratgebern fragt der Aufsatz nach der Einbindung von Erziehungsnormen in Prozesse der Werte- und Gemeinschaftskonstruktion sowie nach der gesellschaftspolitischen Rolle von ExpertInnen. Die Analyse macht deutlich, dass Inhalte und Formen der Ratgeber nicht immer spezifisch sozialistisch waren. Vielmehr können die vermittelten Normen, die geschilderten Probleme und die vorgeschlagenen Lösungen auch in einen gesamteuropäischen oder globalen Zusammenhang moderner Industriegesellschaften eingeordnet werden. Für die 1950er-Jahre ist dabei eine Mischung aus sozialistischer Aufbaurhetorik und bürgerlich anmutenden Familienidealen markant. Der revolutionäre Ehrgeiz der tschechoslowakischen Politik nach 1948 ist in Elternratgebern nur sehr bedingt wiederzufinden. Für die 1960er-Jahre ist eine Psychologisierung der Kindheit zu beobachten, welche Erziehungsfragen in kritische gesellschaftspolitische Perspektiven einordnete (Mangel an Zeit und Zuwendung für Kinder, einseitig technokratische Medizin etc.). Diese Betrachtungsweise wurde in der »Normalisierungszeit« nach 1968 weitergeführt. Zugleich stiegen die Ansprüche an Elternschaft und Erziehung. Damit wurden Elternratgeber zu Instrumenten der Normen- und Konsensbildung, Disziplinierung und Subjektformung im späten Sozialismus.

On the basis of more than 100 Czech and Slovakian parenting books, the article explores the integration of educational norms in political processes and considers the sociopolitical role of experts. The analysis shows that in both content and form, the guidebooks were not always specifically socialist. Rather, the norms conveyed, the problems described, and the proposed solutions can be placed in the European or global context of modern industrial societies. In the case of the 1950s, we find a striking mixture of socialist rhetoric and rather bourgeois family ideals. The revolutionary ambitions of Czechoslovakian politics after 1948 can be seen in parenting books only to a very limited extent. In the 1960s, a psychologisation of childhood can be observed, which linked educational issues to critical sociopolitical perspectives (lack of time and care for children, one-sided technocratic medicine, etc.). This approach was continued in the ›normalisation period‹ after 1968. At the same time, the demands on the quality of parenthood and education increased. Parenting books thus became tools that built and consolidated social norms, discipline and consensus.
