The film documents the battles of Dnieper, Perekop Isthmus, Bachchisserai, Yalta and Sebastopol. It concludes by looking at the Prague uprising and liberation of Czechoslovakia in 1945. A short digression in the middle of the film looks at the director Yevgeniya Zhigulenko, and her work on a film based on the "Night Witches", a female air force regiment that flew bombing missions against the Germans
