Lenin, Marx and Engels lie in the background, but the focus of the film is provided by a series of students and factory workers who meet to discuss the philosophy of politics and the need for revolution. The climax of the film is provided by the revolution of 1905, with the film ending on the barricades with fighting between the revolutionaries and tsarist forces. The English voiceover provides background and context, narration, and an approximate translation of the dialogue. Everything is also interpreted by the voiceover - for example, explaining that at that time, not all workers realised that revolution was needed for the improvement of their conditions
