Les manuscrits littéraires coptes conserves à l’IFAO du Caire se composent d’environ trios cents fragments plus ou moins bien conserves de parchemins et de papiers. La majeure partie de ce fonds provient de la fameuse bibliothèque du monastère Blanc, en Haute-Egypte, près d’Akhmîm. Cette bibliothèque, démembrée progressivement depuis le dix-neuvième siècle à la suite de plusieurs achats, nous a laissé plus de dix mille feuillets ou fragments de feuillets dispersés dans une vingtaine de bibliothèques à travers le monde. Notre connaissance de son contenu dépend donc du catalogage systématique de tous les fonds coptes conservés dans les bibliothèques modernes, catalogage dont le but est de reconstituer, très progressivement, les différents codices auxquels ont appartenu chacun de ces fragments. Le catalogage des manuscrits coptes de l’IFAO s’inscrit dans cette problématique, et vise donc à contribuer à la reconstitution de la bibliothèque du monastère Blanc, encore trop mal connue à l’heure actuelle. En travaillant sur l’histoire du fonds de l’IFAO, j’ai été amenée à consulter des archives inédites conservées à l’Institut de France, lesquelles archives nous livres de nouveaux renseignements sur l’histoire des différentes acquisitions de manuscrits par l’IFAO et par la Bibliothèque nationale de France. Le catalogage proprement dit du fonds IFAO nous livre quant à lui de nombreux textes d’intérêts majeurs. Certains d’entre eux nous sont inconnus en grec ; l’ensemble de ces fragments apporte de nouveaux éléments à notre connaissance d la littérature chrétienne d’Egypte aux premiers siècles de notre ère

The Coptic literary manuscripts kept at the IFAO in Cairo are composed of about three hundred fragments, more or less well preserved, of parchment and paper. The major part of this collection comes from the famous library of the White monastery, in Upper Egypt, close to Akhmîm. This library, dismembered progressively since the nineteenth century following several purchases, has left us more than then thousand pages or fragments of pages scattered among about twenty five libraries through the world. Therefore, our knowledge of its content depends on the systematic cataloguing of all Coptic collections kept in the modern libraries, cataloguing whose goal is to reconstitute, very systematically, the different codices to which each of these fragments belonged. The cataloguing of the Coptic manuscripts of the IFAO appears to be problematic in this respect, and aims therefore to contribute to the reconstitution of the library of the White monastery, still little known at the present time. While working on the history of the collection of the IFAO, I have been led to consult unpublished archives kept in the Institute of France, which archives provide us with new information on the history of the different acquisitions of manuscripts by the IFAO and by the national Library of France. The actual cataloguing of the IFAO collection provides us with many texts of major interest. Some among them are unknown to us in Greek; the sum of these fragments brings new elements to our knowledge of the Christian literature of Egypt in the first centuries of our era
